Ukrainian forces “broken through” Russian defenses at Kherson

The Ukrainian forces broke through Russian defenses on Monday amid a new counter-offensive in the region Kherson.

This operation, that was launched yesterday, is supposed to push Russian troops back across Dnipro River and recovering the occupied city of Kherson. According to the local media reported on Monday, Ukrainian forces barged into Russia’s first line of defense on the borders of Kherson, occupying the individual site reportedly being used an army base.

According to the Ukrainian presidency, Intense battles are currently rising between Ukrainian and Russian forces across all of the southern region. An intelligence report by the UK defense ministry reported that many Ukrainian brigades had stepped up their artillery fire in front line sectors across the south of country.

According to Ukrainian presidential office “powerful explosions continued during the day and night in the Kherson region. Tough battles are ongoing practically across all of the area” Ukrainian forces destroyed ammunition warehouses and all of the large bridges across the whole of Dnipro River that are vital for the Russian troops.

Ukrainian military official, in an interview with CNN, told that its forces have also recaptured four villages in Kherson Oblast. But on the other hand, the Russian forces have claimed to successively repel an attack by Ukrainian troops, who faces “heavy losses” as a result.

Kyiv asked all the civilians in the Kherson Oblast to evacuate the area, with its forces to continue barging into the area and castigate Russian positions on Tuesday.

Kherson, the first major Ukrainian city

Kherson was the first major Ukrainian city with a pre-war population of 280,000 that fell into the Russian hands at the start of invasion in February. This wider region is deliberately valuable, being the hub of Ukrainian agriculture, borders the Russian-controlled Crimean Peninsula, which was mainly used by Russia as a rear base for the invasion. 

Ukrainian President urged Russian troops to flee

There was a huge new series of Ukrainian attacks against Russian forces and supply lines in the south, especially in Crimea.

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Russian troops to flee, in his video address, said the Ukrainian military would definitely chase them ‘to the borders’.

While addressing he said “if they want to survive- it’s time for the Russian military to run away. Go home, Ukraine is taking back its own”

The Russian defense ministry said that the Ukrainian troops tried to invade Kherson, but miserably failed, reported by RIA news agency. It said that “The enemy’s offensive attempt failed miserably”

On Monday, it reported that a Ukrainian spokesperson, Natalia Humeniuk, said that Kyiv launched a counter-offensive in the south and its forces were attacking “in many directions”

An advisor to the regional government, Sergey Khlan told the media on Monday that “Today, there were powerful artillery attacks on enemy positions throughout the territory of the occupied Kherson region. This is the announcement of what we have been waiting for since spring: it is the beginning of the end of the occupation of the Kherson region”
