RUSSIA FIRING WARNING SHOTS AT BRITISH DESTROYER NEAR CRIMEA

The tension between Russia and the G7 Nations is continuing to develop, with Russia firing warning shots. The United States and Russia have been at the center of the conflict. Russia is believed to have targeted the United States in multiple cyberattacks recently.

It appears that a rivalry between Russian and Great Britain is begging to develop as well. The Russian military said that one of its warships and a warplane had to send a message to the British army.

A British destroyer was sitting in the Black Seas near Crimea. Russia claims that this water is their territory, and the British destroyer did not move. The interesting part of Russia’s claims is that the British have announced that the attacks never occurred.

Significance of the Warning Shots

Russia’s statement is significant because it marks the first time since the Cold War that Moscow has admitted to using ammunition to remove a NATO warship. The Cold War was the pinnacle of hatred between Russia and the west. Although, there are growing fears that military incidents may continue between Russia and western nations because tension is rising.

Russia warned the British destroyer HMS Defender before it sailed into the Black Sea near Crimea. The ship sailed 3 kilometers into Russian territory before the firing began, according to Moscow.

They also felt the need to drop four bombs from a Su-24 bomber at the head of the ship’s path. After dropping the bombs, Moscow claimed that the ship received the message and departed the area.

In a statement after the event, the Russian Defense Ministry wants to” prevent such incidents in the future,” but the British need to abide by international maritime law.

Britain Denies Russia Firing Warning Shots

The British have stated that there were no warning shots, and their ship was nowhere near Russian territory in the Black Sea near Crimea. Britain’s Ministry of Defense spoke publicly after Russian reported what happened in the Black Sea.

The department claimed, “No warning shots have been fired at HMS Defender. The Royal Navy ship is conducting innocent passage through Ukrainian territorial waters in accordance with international law.”

Britain does not deny the shots. However, they believe it was part of a Russian training exercise, and they warned nearby ships. Moscow is spreading the rumor that the reasons for Russia firing warning shot was HMS Defender was in Crimean waters to continue escalating the tension between the country and the west.

The department went onto say, “We believe the Russians were undertaking a gunnery exercise in the Black Sea and provided the maritime community with prior warning of their activity. No shots were directed at HMS Defender, and we do not recognize the claim that bombs were dropped in her path.”

The HMS Defender was on a routine trip from Ukraine towards Georgia across the Black Sea. Their path did not cross Russian claimed territory. Additionally, the international community does not recognize Russia’s annexation of Crimea, so Britain stated they could sail in the area. The two stories in this situation will continue to cause problems between Russia and western countries.
