POLITICAL NEWS TODAY: LATEST BREAKING NEWS

There is always something going on in the world of politics; which is why we are going to try and cram in as much of the political news today as possible. There is a lot of ground to cover, including another appointment by President-elect Biden, as well as Vice President Pence paying a visit to Georgia; plus much more.

Let’s catch up.

Biden Appoints Dr. Anthony Fauci as Chief Medical Adviser

During the course of the COVID pandemic, few people have drawn the ire of the President more than Dr. Anthony Fauci. The infectious disease expert went from playing a prominent role in daily briefings to sitting on the sidelines in official government announcements. Dr. Fauci is still a  highly-respected medical professional who has acted as Chief Medical Adviser for several administrations. He will continue in that capacity under President-elect Biden after gladly accepting the position on Thursday night.

On Friday afternoon; he will be in Savannah to participate in a rally for David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler; who have a critical Senate runoff election coming in January. Marijuana Legalization Bill Goes to the House

The House of Representatives is set to vote on a bill that would remove marijuana from the federal list of controlled substances. The bill, which was proposed by Representative Jerry Nadler; would not only pave the way for states to create their marijuana legislation, it would also expunge the criminal records of many minor drug offenders. While the bill is expected to pass the House, do not expect the Senate to vote on it before the end of session, which comes in two weeks.

Biden Picks Up More Votes in New York

Unlike other states, the result of the election in New York was never in any doubt. The final count is now in, though, with Biden winning by roughly two million votes over President Trump. Biden’s 5.2 million votes in the state accounted for 60.4% of the total votes cast; beating the number that Hillary Clinton posted in 2016.
